Ottawa Torah Winter Special Events

Chanuka Chagiga at the home of Rabbi and Mrs. Harris

The first night of Chanuka 5775 featured a sumptuous seuda and chagiga at the home of our Rosh Yeshiva Rabbi and Mrs. Yaakov Moshe Harris. Aharon Shlomo Galandauer, Grade 9, spoke about the hidden Hand of Hashem which twirls the path of history, hinted to by the hidden meanings of the dreidel game we play. Zecharia Greineman, Grade 9 delivered a powerful and inspiring dvar torah linking our present day struggles of fighting for Yiddishkeit with the battles the Maccabi’im fought against the Syrian-Greeks. A full home-cooked meal was enjoyed by all, followed by dessert, latkes, spirited singing and leibedig dancing. The students went home feeling very uplifted and truly energized with the Chanuka spirit.

Hidden talents revealed @ AFTERHOURS program

The OTI Melave Malka, on Motzei Shabbos was an amazing success! NCSY graciously allowed the Yeshiva to enjoy the wonderful Torah High lounge and ice cream bar as the location for the event. The evening began with two exciting learning options – Rabbi Harris’s challenging Shiur on the complex legal mechanism of “Migu” or Rabbi Mandel’s fascinating discussion of the Halachic implications and scenarios of a “Golem”. The boys were then treated to an inspiring and confidence-building activity led by Mr. Gaby Scarowsky who proved that we can all succeed and overcome any challenge in life, if we put our minds to it and believe in our own abilities. He taught the student to focus and concentrate as they smashed a solid block of wood into two pieces. The evening was topped off with pizza and fries with spirited dancing and singing. An amazing time was had by all, and the powerful message was deeply internalized. We are very thankful to NCSY for allowing us to use their facility. We look forward to the next exciting event to be announced soon.
